What to do in Fez in two days – 2 Days to the desert From Fez, the 2-day trip to the Merzouga desert from Fez, passing through Midelt and Aerou and the Ziz Valley, Camel excursion in Merzouga for one night in the desert camp.
After breakfast at your hotel or Riad in Fes, we depart for the Merzouga desert. We will pass through Ifrane and reach the Azrou forests, where wild monkeys live. This is a great opportunity to take photos of Moroccan nature. We will have lunch in the Berber village of Zaida.
We continue through the Atlas Mountains, enjoying the landscapes of Midelt until we reach the small town of Rich and then Erfoud, where you will begin to feel the Saharan air at the Tafilalet oasis. Upon arrival in Merzouga and after a short rest, we will set out on camels to spend the night in the desert. We will sleep in traditional Berber tents (jaimas) at the camp.
Early in the morning, after watching the beautiful sunrise over the dunes, we return to the hostel by camel. After breakfast, we head toward the vast Tafilalet palm grove, passing through the city of Rissani (the origin of the Alaouite dynasty and the capital of the former Alaouite sultans).
Then, we take the road back to Fes, passing through the beautiful Ziz Valley, Errachidia, and Midelt until we reach the cedar forest to visit the famous “Gouraud Cedar.” We continue across the Middle Atlas to arrive in Fes in the evening (around 7:00 PM).
Fes is the intellectual and historical capital of Morocco, divided into three parts: Fes el Bali (the old city), the new part built during the French protectorate, and the Jewish quarter. The city features a stunning medina with impressive gates, walls, and palaces.
