4x4 excursion in Merzouga

4x4 route to discover the desert, unique landscapes, and visit local nomads.

1 Night in the Merzouga Desert

Depending on the time of arrival, this excursion begins after a leisurely lunch. The camels are loaded with food, blankets, and all the necessary equipment for this journey that will take us through the most isolated desert. This route will reveal a small oasis hidden among the dunes where we will spend the night.

If we are fortunate and the sky is clear, we can enjoy a starry night. After enjoying a delicious dinner, we will light a fire.

If you get up early the next morning, you will have the chance to take a walk through the dunes and watch the sun rise over the Algerian border, just 50 kilometers from Merzouga. You will have time to take photos before and after breakfast, after which we will return to the hostel, thus ending this excursion.

2 Nights in the Merzouga Sahara Desert

This excursion begins after a leisurely lunch. The camels will be loaded with food, blankets, and all the necessary equipment for this journey that will take us through the most isolated desert. The camp is located on a 120-meter-high dune where you can enjoy hours of fun riding the sand on a board (sandboarding).

On the first night, we will enjoy dinner around a campfire. In the morning, we will have a hearty breakfast, and then we will still have almost two hours of travel time before reaching our new destination.

We will stop for an hour and a half to have lunch in the shade of a tamarisk tree, which is typical of the desert. After lunch, we will continue on our way to the property of a Tuareg family, where we will spend the night and interact with them. The next day, after a hearty breakfast, we will return to the village.

This excursion can be done in reverse. You can spend the first night with the Tuareg family and the next night in the oasis. On the second day, after visiting the Tuareg family, you can enjoy returning to the hotel in the morning.

Camel Ride Sunset and Sunrise

Sunrise excursion. This excursion begins at 5 a.m. and takes about 30 minutes to reach the highest dune in Merzouga. This excursion includes a visit to the gardens on the way back to town. Enjoy the night. Enjoy the calm of the night, no need to worry about the alarm clock, as we will wake you up ourselves.

Sunset Excursion. This excursion begins at 5 p.m. and includes a 40-minute camel ride through the orange dunes of Erg Chebbi. We will leave the camels behind and climb about 80 meters to the highest dune in Merzouga. Those who prefer a panoramic view of the sunset will have to climb to the top of the dune, which takes about 10 minutes longer. Those who prefer to stay below can enjoy the sunset in the area where we leave the camels.
