After breakfast at your Riad or hotel, we will drive north on our day trip from Fes to Chefchaouen to explore a culture and lifestyle that is remarkably different from that of Fes.

Chefchaouen is nestled at the foot of the Rif Mountains, from which it takes its name “Chaouen” (meaning “horns”), referring to the shape of the mountain peaks above the city. It was founded in 1471 as a small fortress by Moulay Ali Ben Moussa, a direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad.

Chefchaouen fell under Spanish occupation and was later emancipated in 1956. It is famously known as the “Blue City” for its traditional blue-washed buildings. Enjoy a walk to explore the white and blue walls of the medina and the local markets offering unique native handicrafts.

You can also see the old road to Larache and a ruined mosque built by the Spanish, which still has stairs in its tower. During the return trip to Fes, you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the Rif Mountains.
