Fes to Merzouga 4-day desert tour ( Erg-Chebbi )

Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Monkey Forest – Midelt – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert

On the first day of your Fes to Merzouga 4-day desert tour, we depart from Fes toward the desert. We will cross the Middle Atlas mountains and pass through the national park famous for its cedar forests, home to the well-known Barbary monkeys. Next, we will travel through the Ziz Valley, which leads us to Erfoud, a town renowned for its fossils.

Upon arrival at the desert, we will trade our 4×4 vehicles for camels. We will enjoy a pleasant ride of approximately two hours through the dunes until we reach the tented camp (haimas) in the heart of the desert. There, we will be welcomed with traditional Berber tea, according to Saharan tradition. Overnight stay in tents under the desert stars.

Day 2: Desert – Nomad Visit – Khamlia (Village of the Blacks) – Erg Chebbi

After breakfast, we will visit Khamlia, known as the “Village of the Blacks.” It is so named because its inhabitants are descendants of the historic slave trade from Sudan. They are excellent musicians and have made this art their way of life.

We will enjoy a short Gnawa music concert with them. Afterward, we will return to the 4×4 to travel along one of the tracks used in the “Paris-Dakar Rally,” visiting the Khol mines and the remains of a French and Berber settlement. We will stop at a panoramic viewpoint to contemplate the Erg Chebbi dunes as a whole. We will also visit a nomadic desert family in the process of settling, where we can share tea and learn more about their lifestyle. Return to the hotel. Free afternoon and overnight stay at a desert hotel.

Day 3: Desert – Ziz Valley – Fes

After breakfast, we begin our third day heading north through the Tafilalet palm grove, the largest in the world. You will see thousands of palm trees along the 20 km road. This route leads us to the Ziz Valley, which flows down from the High Atlas and feeds the palm groves. We will stop at a high viewpoint to enjoy the magnificent scenery of the valley and the town of Aoufous.

We will make another stop in Midelt, located in the heart of the Atlas Mountains, where you will have free time for lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, we continue through the Cedar Woods, where, if we are lucky, we will see more monkeys.

Our next stop is the city of Ifrane, located on the northwestern slope of the Middle Atlas at 1,630 meters above sea level. Its wide avenues, perfectly clean streets, gardens, green spaces, and architecture make it look like a Swiss town. Because of this, it is known as the “Switzerland of Morocco,” and it even features a major ski resort, Michlifen. We will arrive in Fes around 6:00 PM and transfer to your hotel.

Day 4: Guided Tour of Fes – Fes Airport
