How to get to Merzouga from Marrakech or Fez

From Marrakech to Erg Chebbi by Bus

There is no direct route from Marrakech to Erg Chebbi Merzouga. The cheapest option is to take a CTM bus from Marrakech to Ouarzazate, where you can connect with another bus to Rissani. There is also the option of taking a Supratours bus from near the Marrakech train station to Erfoud, Rissani or Merzouga. Once you arrive at your destination, you can organise your trip to the desert from any hotel. By Grand Taxi or 4×4, we also offer these routes in 4×4 vehicles. With this other option, the route from Marrakech to Ouarzazate will cost you around 480 dirhams (approximately £40). Depending on the seat you choose, there will be a different fare: a seat in the back with three other people costs 80 dirhams per person. The Grand Taxi will only depart when it is full. When you arrive in Ouarzazate, take another taxi to Tinehir, where you will need to take a bus or another taxi to Rissani.

With an organised trip to the Sahara Desert

If you are interested in visiting Ait-Ben-Haddou and the Todra Gorges on your way to the desert, the best option is to book a 3-day trip (minimum) with Brahim. This way, you avoid having to deal with drivers and worry about finding a place to spend the night. The price of the trip depends on the number of people signed up, so the more of you there are, the cheaper it will be.

From Fez to Erg Chebbi By coach

Take the CTM bus from Fez to Erfoud/Rissani. You can also catch it from Meknes. The journey takes about 9 hours and thanks to the air conditioning on the buses, it will be more bearable.

You can take a Grand Taxi to Er Rachidia, where you can connect with another one to Erfoud, Rissani or Merzouga, depending on your preference.

By car

If you plan to go by car, you should know that the road from Rissani to Merzouga is not marked, which will make it difficult to find your way. The best option is to contact Brahim and meet up in Erfoud.
